Research Notes (Conflicts/Spelling/Followup)
CONFLICTS
Birth Date: This database uses 3 Sep 1831. The 1880 U.S. Census gives an age of (47), which, when applied to the official census date of 1 Jun 1880, gives a birth date range from 2 Jun 1832 to 1 Jun 1833. [census-us-1880-ps-ks-osage-37-28]
SPELLING
Surname: This database uses Pierson. The 1856 Iowa Census uses Pearson. [census-us-iowa-1856-cedar-springdale-312]
Given Name: This database uses Deborah. The 1880 and 1900 U.S. Censuses use Debora. [census-us-1880-ps-ks-osage-37-28, census-us-1900-ps-ca-losangeles-117-8]
FOLLOWUP
The 1860 U.S. Census includes a line for C.[G.?] H. Pierson, a 5 month old boy as of 1 Jun 1860, the official date of the census. There is no other record of C.H. that I can find so far. This child should be a 2 month old Barak. George and Deborah Pierson also had a child George Henry Pierson (G. H. Pierson), but he wasn't born until 1861.Was Barak renamed when he was an infant? [census-us-1860-ps-iowa-grundy-felix-228]
Deborah brought her four children to California. [This happened long after George died, as they were in Kansas in the early 1880s, but were in California by 1900.] [interview-{private}-2009]
Deborah is buried at Mountain View Cemetery and Mausoleum in Altadana, California. There is a Find A Grave entry for her (177395611) showing a flat gravemarker in Alpine Meadow, lot 143, grave 4. However, the marker doesn't include a surname, only noting "Deborah C. / 1831 - 1905" and no image is provided of a surname stone that is clearly identified as relating to her. (There is an image of the area that shows a flat stone in front of a Pierson marker, but the flat stone appears to be Theodore.) The father-in-law of Deborah's son Barak is also buried in this lot, in grave 3.
A death registry notes that Deborah died of chronic bronchitis in Highgrove, California. (from California, U.S., County Birth, Marriage, and Death Records, 1849-1980, Ancestry, path "Riverside 〉 Death 〉 1893-1905", image 43)
