Research Notes (Conflicts/Spelling/Followup)

FOLLOWUP

The birth and death dates are not known, nor is it really known if this individual existed. According to Plantagenet Ancestry, Humphrey and Dorothy Need had two sons named Nathaniel. This database accepts this premise for now, and this individual's entry represents that first infant; his younger brother is represented by another individual's entry. [book-plantagenet-ancestry-2004]

Genealogical Gleanings in Great Britain does not indicate there were two Nathaniels, and gives a baptism date of 2 April 1617 for Nathaniel. However, this conflicts with a 1622 date as given in Plantagenet Ancestry, explicitly for the second Nathaniel. Since this database is using the premise there were two Nathaniels, the 1617 baptism is conditionally accepted as Nathaniel's baptism date, but is being applied to the first, who died as an infant, and is represented by this individual's record, The 1622 baptism is applied to the second, and is represented by another individual's record. However, this is guesswork and may be a case of molding the story too much to fit the data. It should be taken as highly questionable, and proper research is needed. [periodical-genealogical-gleanings-in-gb-1913, book-plantagenet-ancestry-2004]

The death date is guessed. Since his brother was also named Nathaniel, the presumption is that the first Nathaniel died before the second was named. [book-plantagenet-ancestry-2004]
