General Notes and Anecdotes

Mattie filed for divorce from Willis Dole before 27 May 1915. According to her petition, he left her 16 Mar 1913 after 15 years of a "systematic campaign of fault finding and abuse" and failed to support her after that. Only Viola was still at home at the time, and Martha sought custody. [periodical-campaign-of-abuses-1915]

Research Notes (Conflicts/Spelling/Followup)

CONFLICTS

Birth Date: This database uses 4 Feb 1867. The 1930 U.S. Census gives an age of (63), which, when applied to the offical census date of 1 Apr 1930, gives a birth date range from 2 Apr 1867 to 1 Apr 1868. [census-us-1930-ps-ks-decatur-17-2a]

FOLLOWUP

Martha may have been born in Mt. Ephraim, Noble County, Ohio. [research-a-spear-family-history]

The 1930 U.S. Census notes that Willis Dole was divorced. Since this simply applies to a divirce that occured prior to 1930, it may or may not refer to his marriage to Martha. Since it may refer to another wife it is not yet a source. [census-us-1930-ps-ca-santacruz-9-9b]

There is a death certificate from Newark(?), Licking County, Ohio, for Martha (English) Arnold, daughter of Joseph English and Eliz. Slaughter, and the widow of Saml. Arnold. Is there a mixup with Martha Spear marrying what appears may be the same Samuel Arnold? Or is that a different Samuel Arnold?
