Comment Detail: Source includes approximate date and occupation (...the first 3 years of our marriage, then Jim was offered a job as an electrician's helper...) and implies he took it by noting he didn't like living in the big city, so found another job after a couple of years.

Comment Detail: Source includes date (1948) and location (Rapid City [, South Dakota]). The obituary is inconsistent --- it claims she and James lived in Murdo for "their first 3 years" after marrying in 1946, but that they moved to Rapid City and Lawrence was born in October 1948, two years later. This record will treat the "3 years" as really being somewhere between 2 and 3.

Comment Detail: Source includes date (1949) and location (Piedmont [, South Dakota]). The obituary is unclear, stating that the moved to Piedmont and Harold was born in September of 1949. Were these the same month, or did they move some months before Harold was born? This record will assume the year of the move and Harold's birth are the same, but not necessarily the month.

CONFLICTS

Birth Date: This database uses 3 Jul 1926. The 1930 U.S. Census gives an age of (3 9/12 [3y 9m]), which, when applied to the offical census date of 1 Apr 1930, gives a birth date range from 2 Jun 1925 to 1 Jul 1926. [census-us-1930-ps-sd-jones-22-1b]

FOLLOWUP

Jim may have died 7 May 2001, in Rapid City, Pennington County, South Dakota. [research-social-security-death-index]

The Great Depression story by Dorotha Dickey follows the same sequence of movement from Murdo to Rapid City to Piedmont to Custer State Park as other sources, but the timeline not only differs from other sources, but is also internally inconsistent. (She notes a move to Rapid City after 3 years so marriage [so, about 1949] and a couple of years later [so, about 1951] to a farm 20 miles outside of Rapid City [corresponds to Piedmont] where they stayed for about 18 months. However, while in Piedmont she notes enduring the "big forest fire of 1948." If the move to Rapid City was about two years into the marriage, the dates would line up better, but the "couple of years" before the move to Piedmont would need investiagtion. However, this inconsistency would affect every relative date. [story-depression-stories-dorotha-dickey]
