Research Notes (Conflicts/Spelling/Followup)

CONFLICTS

Given Name: This database uses Joseph Elbert. The obituary of David C. Spear gives his name as Albert. This may be a simple typographical error. [obituary-david-spear-1940]

Birth Date: This database uses 18 Feb 1879. The 1930 U.S. Census gives an age of (50), which, when applied to the offical census date of 1 Apr 1930, gives a birth date range from 2 Apr 1879 to 1 Apr 1880. [census-us-1930-ps-ks-rawlins-17-1a]

Birth Date: This database uses 18 Feb 1879. Joseph's gravestone gives a year of 1880. [marker-joseph-spear-1955]

FOLLOWUP

Joseph may have been born in Guthrie County, Iowa, and died 8 Jan 1955 in Atwood, Kansas. [research-a-spear-family-history]

Joseph may have never married. The 1930 U.S. Census lists him as being single. Specifically, he was never married. At this time, he was living with his sister Wilma and her husband Benjamin Burkett. [census-us-1930-ps-ks-rawlins-17-1a]

The 1925 Polk Directory for Pueblo City, Colorado lists a Bert H. Spear who is apparently married to Louise and living in Pueblo. Joseph Elbert's brother Frank J (John Franklin) Spear also lived in Pueblo. Is this reference to a diffferent Bert Spear? If it's Joseph using his nickname, where did the "H." come from?
