General Notes and Anecdotes

Larry enjoyed racing cars at the Ascot Raceway in Gardena, California with his friend Butch [whom he followed in moving to Southern California]. The raceway is a figure-8 dirt track. [obituary-lawrence-dickey-2022]

Larry was active in his children's lives: coaching in Little League, camping, fishing, hunting, and bowling. He and his wife would serve as cooks at their children's summer church camp and back-pack with the yough group. [obituary-lawrence-dickey-2022]

After moving back to the Black Hills in 1993, Larry enjoyed his 1959 Chevrolet Impala and going to the races, playing softball, camping, and square danceing. [obituary-lawrence-dickey-2022]

Larry suffered a virus in Autumn 2001 that attacked his heart and lungs, requiring the implantation of a pacemaker/defibrillator unit. However, his constitution was strong enough that he outlasted his doctors' initial estimates. [obituary-lawrence-dickey-2022]
