Comment Detail: Source includes year (1809) and location (Collins). Note that in 1809, Collins was just being populated and was not a town until 1812. In 1809, the area was part of the area claimed by the town of Concord. And while it is currently in Erie County, that county didn't exist until 1821; in the given year, the location that would become Collins was in Concord, Niagara County, New York.

General Notes and Anecdotes
In 1809 Joshua traveled with Stephen Lapham, Abram Lapham, and Stephen Peters, on foot and carrying all they needed in knapsacks, to inspect and select areas in which to settle. Joshua selected lands and contracted for these in 1810. [book-history-of-concord-1883]
Joshua was a prominent member of the Society of Friends and preached widely, usually traveled on horseback, and was often sent for, from long distances, to preach funeral sermons. [book-history-of-concord-1883]
By 1870, Joshua and Hannah were living in the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Thomas and Mary Paxton. [census-us-1870-ps-oh-monroe-salem-40]

Research Notes (Conflicts/Spelling/Followup)
FOLLOWUP
Joshua's parents may have been the son of John Palmerton (b. 3 Mar 1759 in Danby, Rutland County Vermont; d. 31 Jul 1826 in Saratoga, New York) and Elizabeth Wilbor (b. 13 May 1759 in Little Compton, Newport County, Rhode Island; d. 1853 in Collins, New York). They may have married 4 Dec 1776 in Clarindon, Rutland County, Vermont. [research-joshua-palmerton-genealogical-study]
His mother, Elizabeth Wilbor may have been the daughter of George Wilbor (b. 23 Sep 1718 in Portsmouth, Rhode Island; d. 1777) and Deborah Randall (b. 24 Sep 1721 in Gloucester, Essex County, Massachusetts; d. ?). Deborah and George may have married c. 1747 in Little Compton, Newport County, Rhode Island. [research-joshua-palmerton-genealogical-study]
Joshua's siblings, all born in Danby, Rutland County, Vermont, may have been Thankful (b. c. 1779), Elizabeth (b. c. 1781), John (b. c. 1783; d. 27 Feb 1885 in New York), Deborah (b. c. 1787), Sara (b. c. 1790), Henry W. (b. 8 Feb 1794; d. 9 Sep 1870), William Mather (b. 1796), and Edward (b. c. 1800). [research-joshua-palmerton-genealogical-study]
Joshua's sibling William and his wife Floranna (nee Delezenne) had a daughter Flora Palmerton, who married Alanson Clark. Their child Willis Gaylord Clark married Mary J. Maltby, daughter of Frederick L. Maltby. I wonder if they are related to our friend, {private} Maltby.
In the 1850 U.S. Census, a child of two years is shown in the household. The birth date is rather late for Hannah Palmerton to be having children (she was about 55), and it appears to be some 12 years after Mary and 23 years after Joseph. Could Charles be a grandchild? [census-us-1850-ps-ny-erie-collins-299a]
A 16-year old girl named Margaret Coil was living with the Palmertons in 1850. Was she a relative, friend, or just a border? [census-us-1850-ps-ny-erie-collins-299a]
Is Joshua buried in the Route 39 Quaker Cemetery, located about 1/4 mile east of Kerr-Warner Road, in Collins? The date on his headstone may be 18 Jul 1873.
In 1860, Joshua's household included his son Joseph and Joseph's family. It also included a boy of 11, Philip Weber, who was born in Germany. His relationship to the Palmertons is unknown, and he may have been a border or farmhand. [census-us-1860-ps-ny-erie-collins-29]
In 1870, Duane Palmerton (13) is listed in the census in the household of Thomas and Mary Paxton, under the entryes for Joshua and Helen Palmerton. Thomas is a son-in-law of Joshua Palmerton. Is Duane Joshua's grandson? If so, by whom? Joshua's sone James is a likely candidate. He died after Duane was born, and was married a few years before. [census-us-1870-ps-oh-monroe-salem-40]
