General Notes and Anecdotes
In 1809 Joshua traveled with Stephen Lapham, Abram Lapham, and Stephen Peters, on foot and carrying all they needed in knapsacks, to inspect and select areas in which to settle. Joshua selected lands and contracted for these in 1810. [book-history-of-concord-1883]
Joshua was a prominent member of the Society of Friends and preached widely, usually traveled on horseback, and was often sent for, from long distances, to preach funeral sermons. [book-history-of-concord-1883]

Joshua's parents may have been the son of John Palmerton (b. 3 Mar 1759 in Danby, Rutland County Vermont; d. 31 Jul 1826 in Saratoga, New York) and Elizabeth Wilbor (b. 13 May 1759 in Little Compton, Newport County, Rhode Island; d. 1853 in Collins, New York). His mother, Elizabeth Wilbor may have been the daughter of George Wilbor (b. 23 Sep 1718 in Portsmouth, Rhode Island; d. 1777) and Deborah Randall (b. 24 Sep 1721 in Gloucester, Essex County, Massachusetts; d. ?). In the 1850 U.S. Census, a child of two years is shown in the household. The birth date is rather late for Hannah Palmerton to be having children (she was about 55), and it appears to be some 12 years after Mary and 23 years after Joseph. Could Charles be a grandchild?
