An entry in the "Burlington Hawk Eye" indicates that Nathan Smith drowned in the Cedar river. He is marked as an "old and respected Quaker citizen" and lived in Springdale (Cedar County, IA). Tragically, two boys drowned while searching for Nathan's body, after upsetting their boat. (The article implies that Nathan died on 8 Jul.)
