Research Notes (source comments, unreliable information)

According to "The Mendenhalls":

The "brother" Benjamin Stroads mention in Thomas Mendenhall's will indicates connection with the Strode or Stroade family. Benjamin Stode could be a brother of Joan, wife of Thomas Mendenhall, or could be the husband of a sister of Thomas Mendenhall. The Strode lineage goes back to Sir John de Stode, Knight, the 8th generation from Sir Warinus de la Stode, Lord of Strode, in Dorsetshire in the 17th year of the reign of Henry III. The line descends to William Strode of Shepton Mallet who married Joanne Barnard who had six sons and three daughters. One of these daughters was Joanna, but none of the sons was named Benjamin. The name of Joanna's husband is not given and it has been suggested that she is Joan, wife of Thomas Mendenhall.
