Notes:

Louisa seems to have been particularly cursed, according to the US Census, she had a total of 14 children, of whom only 5 were living in 1900. [1900 US Census]

The Albert and Louisa Apel family moved around a lot. Each of the four children listed in the 1900 US Census was born in a different state. [1900 US Census]

Research Notes (source comments, unreliable information)

Both of Louisa's parents were from Germany [1900 US Census] or Switzerland [1910 US Census]. (Need to check historical boundaries of Switzerland in this period.)

Could her maiden name be Marshall?

Regarding her children, 14 seems a little high for a 39-year-old woman who nad been married for 21 years, and loosing 9 children in this time is a tremendous tragedy. If this is not a mistake in the records, it will be interesting to learn the true story.

For comments on the movement of the family, see Albert's research notes.
