Research Notes (source comments, unreliable information)

William may have remarried between before June 1884 to Jane (last name unknown), born March 1830 in Ireland (1900 Census).

He may have served in the Civil War (see 1860 Civil War Pension Records, National Archives). A record has been found that is close, but is for William G. Shafer, who served the Union side in the Civil War, enlisting as a Private on 20 April 1861 (age 40) assigned to Company B, 11th Infantry Regiment Ohio on 26 April 1861. If so, he was mustered out from that same regiment on 18 August 1861.

The 1880 Census only shows his age as 68.

William may be buried in Mt. Ephriam Cemetry, Noble County, OH.
