Research Notes (source comments, unreliable information)

The father of George is often given as Richard Maris (d. 1641), since Richard mentions a son by the name of George in his will. However, there appear to have been two individuals by the name of George Maris in Grafton Flyford in the early 1600's, and there is no evidence of which George was meant. (Information from Stewart Baldwin.)

George is of the Worcestershire (England) line of Maris. There is another Maris line in Cambridgeshire (England), but it is not known if or how the two lines are related. There is also a Marris (note the spelling) line in Lincolnshire (England) with a known link to the Marisco family, descended from a Norman family appearing in England about 1066 with William the Conquerer. There are unproven suggestions that both Maris lines are also descended from this same ancestry, but DNA testing has shown a larger degree of variance that would be expected for a common ancestry, so this suggestion may be wrong.
