Research Notes (source comments, unreliable information)

Scott County, Virgina was formed in 1814 from territories of Lee, Washington, and Russel Counties. A Robert Spear is listed as a Lieutenant of Militia for the County Militia at the first County Court. [from "History of southwest Virginia, 1746-1786, Washington County, 1777-1870"]

The 1830 U.S. Census identifies the household as containing Robert and one female between 30 and 40 (probably Margaret), one boy under 5 and two between 5 and 10 (unknown) and two girls under 5 (unknown).

Robert may have used the surname Spears. This could be a poll-taker error, but the other Spear siblings on the same page (and on other pages in the same township listing on the same census) are correct. [1830 U.S. Census]

There are several Spear children listed in the household of Robert and Margaret in 1850. However, they don't appear to be Robert's. This needs to be resolved.
