Notes:

Gershom was evidently a man of business. Many real estate deeds in Plymouth were recorded in which he was named as one of the parties. He also had a maritime business.

From Gershom's will:

  • sons Gershom and John were appointed joint executors;
  • to wife Mary went 100£, the use and improvement of one room in his dwelling house, including the cellar and chamber room, together with household goods, except for one bed and furniture; she was also provided with firewood and two barrels of cider yearly for the duration of her widowhood; she was given his "negro woman" [slave] Kingson during Mary's widowhood, who would afterward go to son John; and finally he bequeathed three cows and ten sheep, to be kept for Mary by his executors;
  • to daughter Bethiah went 58£, as she had already been given 12£;
  • to daughter Mary went 13£, as she had already been given 47£;
  • to daughter Sarah went all of his lands in the township of Dorchester Township, County Suffolk (probably in Massachusetts Colony) and 10£;
  • to daughter Rebeckah went 70£;
  • to daughter Penelopy went 70£;
  • Rebeckah and Penelopy were also given a bed and furniture to be used by both while they were unmarried, and after one married or died, to be owned by the other;
  • to sons John and Gershom (Jr.) went the rest of his estate, divided equally;
  • finally, if any of his children contest the will, they are to be given one shilling and no more.
