Raymond was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1930. He went to Moorhead High School in Moorhead, MN, but attended only 3 3/4 years, never receiving a diploma. He left high school in 1934.

From 1941 to 1945 he worked for his brother-in-law Clifford Marks as a baker in Clifford's bakery in Los Angeles, California. This employment ended after he was drafted, and inducted into the army on 11 Jul 1945. He served about a year working as a baker, and later as a cook. He was honorably discharged 30 Jul 1946 at Fort George Meade in Maryland with the rank of sergeant. He was attached to the 89th Quartermaster Training Company when he was discharged.

However, an employment record also exists for 1943, when he was working for Pacific Screw Products Corp. as a machinist. His identification was issued by the Captain of Port of Los Angeles.

Research Notes (source comments, unreliable information)

His 1930 Certificate of Confirmation lists Raymond's birthday as 31 Oct 1916. However, his death certificate and family records record his birthday as 30 Oct 1915.

After marrying Pearl, the couple lived in Los Angeles before moving to Downey around 1959, and to Buena Park a few years later (1963?).
