SPELLING

Surname: This database uses Deuel. The History and Map of Danby, Vermont uses Dewell. [book-history-and-map-of-danby-vermont-1869]

FOLLOWUP

Is Sarah the daughter of Benjamin and Sarah Duel (Deuel / Daval / Devol / Devel)? There is a will dated 1792 in Oblong (now Pawling), Dutchess County, NY, proved 19 May 1792 at Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, NY. From a transcribed record (original in "Dutchess County, NY State, Vol. A. page 302). Listed children: George, Joseph, John, Benjamin, Jonathan, Basheba (Bathsheba), Sarah, Abigail, and Hannah. Listed grandson Peter, son of John.

Gilbert and Sarah were noted as being married out-of-unity. My assumption is that this is because Sarah was not a member of the Society of Friends. [book-quaker-records-nine-partners-mm]

The meeting records for Nine Partners Monthly Meeting note that Gilbert Palmer and Sarah Duell were the parents of Mary. However, the only known Mary in this database was born in Dec 1788, the daughter of Gilbert's second wife. Did Gilbert and Sarah have a child named Mary, who would almost certainly have to have been a twin of another child, and who may have died young? [book-quaker-records-nine-partners-mm]
