A story in The Republican Citizen (Atwood, Kansas) on 2 Jan 1891, p. 3, col. 4, notes the death by consumption (TB) of Emmett Spear, son of William Spear, on 28 Dec 1890. It noted he had lived in the area for "four years and more" and that he would be sorely missed.

William Spear may have died 15 Apr 1918 in Abingdon, Knox County, Illinois, and been buried in the Hermon Cemetery, Hermon, Knox County, Illinois. [research-a-spear-family-history]

There are actually two "Hermon" Cemeteries: the Hermon Christian Church Cemetery, and the Hermon Methodist Church Cemetery. These two cemeteries are located across the road from each other, on the east and west sides respectively, of Knox Highway 8, just north of Knox Highway 300.
