FOLLOWUP

John married (about 1766) Margaret Lewis, a daughter of John [Lewis]. [book-maris-family-in-the-us-1885]

This may be the John Maris identified in A roster of Revolutionary ancestors of the Indiana Daughters of the American Revolution. The year of birth matches, but the name John is too common and the Maris family too large to preclude another John that might have been born in the same year.
