Research Notes (Conflicts/Spelling/Followup)

FOLLOWUP

Joshua married (1846) Charity Bennet. [book-history-of-concord-1883]

The marriage was also reported in the Springville Express, Springville, Erie County, New York, 2 May 1846, p.3, c.2, under the heading "Married." The marriage date is given as "14th inst." (inst. meaning "instant," or "the current month") indicating the marriage took place on 14 May 1846. However, that date is still in the future as of the publication date, and the text is suggestive that it had already taken place. Three other references in the column also suffer this confusion, including one on "30 inst." Since the paper was published weekly, could the column have been written in April after 25 Apr 1846, maybe on 30 Apr, and published 2 May 1846; perhaps the writer was confused and not corrected by the editor? (The Latin term "ultimo" is generally used to mean the previous month.)

Was Joshua's middle name Evans?

Was Charity burried in Collins Center, NY? (Find A Grave memorial 27761666.

Did he subsequently marry Sarah M. Halladay (1831-1904) in 1851? (Find A Grave memorial 240885451.)

Did Joshua die 19 Jan 1897 in Sandusky, Ohio?
