General Notes and Anecdotes
He was elected to the Provincial Assembly 10 times from 1701 to 1722, though a marker for Nicholas and Nathanel indicate he first served in 1698. He was also commisioned as a justice in the Courts at Chester several times from 1703 through at least 1726. [book-colonial-families-of-pennsylvania-v1-1911, marker-newline-family-1916]
He was a founder of Newlin Township in 1724. [marker-newline-family-1916]
In addition, he served as a trustee of the General Loan Office of the province, and was one of the commissioners selected in 1700 to generate a plan for a new form of government for the province. [book-colonial-families-of-pennsylvania-v1-1911]
In 1724, he purchased a tract of 7700 acres on Brandywine Creek, an area that was later laid out as Newlin Township. The cost of this land to Nathaniel was £800. [book-colonial-families-of-pennsylvania-v1-1911]

Research Notes (Conflicts/Spelling/Followup)
CONFLICTS
Birth Date: This database uses 18 Feb 1664/65. The book Colonial and Revolutionary Families of Pennsylvania offers a date of "about 1660." [book-colonial-families-of-pennsylvania-v1-1911]
Emigration Location: This database uses Mountmellick, County Queens, Ireland. The book Genealogy of the Sharpless Family claims an emigration point of Mount Melick, County Tyrone, Ireland. However, there is no such place in County Tyrone. There is, however, a Mountmellick in County Laois, which was known as County Queens until 1922. [book-genealogy-of-the-sharpless-family-1887]
FOLLOWUP
The 500 acres that had been surveyed to Nathaniel's father in 1683 in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, were surveyed to Nathaniel on 2 Apr 1703. The next year, he built a stone grist mill there, on the west branch of Chester Creek. The mill operated commercially until 1941, under several families (Newlin, Trimble, Shapless, and Hill). It was purchaed by E. Mortimer Newlin (a descendent of Nathaniel) and his wife Elizabeth in 1956, who founded the Nicholas Newlin Foundation in 1960 and restored the now unused millworks. The mill is part of a 160-acre park dedicated to historical preservation and environmental appreciation. (from https://newlingristmill.org/about-newlin-grist-mill.)
