Reference Detail: Page 614 (PDF page 654) Thomas Marshall

Comment Detail: Source includes year (⟨conflict⟩) of the emigration of siblings Mary, Benjamin, John, and Moses Mendenhall. It notes they were from Mildenhall, County Suffolk, England, but Mildenhall is not a seaport, so it is assumed this is where they lived, not the port from which they embarked. This database generalizes this to England, though it might be reasonable to use County Sufflolk. See research notes for conflict details.

Research Notes (Conflicts/Spelling/Followup)

CONFLICTS

Emigration Date (England): This database uses no date. The book Colonial Families in America gives a year of 1686, but this runs into problems given that Nathaniel Newlin was in Province of Pennsylvania in 1683 and the couple was married in 1685, in Pennsylvania. It is possible he returned to England to bring Mary back, but there seems to be no evidence for that. There are also possible related problems with the birth date of her daughter Jemima. [book-colonial-families-of-pennsylvania-v1-1911]

FOLLOWUP

The memorial marker for Nicholas and Nathaniel Newlin indicates that Nathaniel's wife Mary came from Wiltshire, England, but doesn't explicitly state that she was born there. [marker-newlin-family-1916]
