General Notes and Anecdotes

Clifford co-owned a bakery in Los Angeles, California with his wife. They owned it for about 27 years, probably from about 1933 [to about 1960]. It was known as "The Bakery Without A Name" and Pearl (Clifford's sister) decorated cakes for them. [interview-private-2007-a]

About 1959 or 1960 they moved to a new location in Downey, California at the Stonewood Shopping Center and started a new bakery known as "Myn-De-Mar Pastry," an open-air (at the time) mall. Pearl still decorated cakes for him, and they did a booming business. [interview-private-2007-a]

The bakery was important to the Marks family. Not only was it a source of pride for Clifford, but it was successful enough to support several of his siblings and in-laws. [interview-private-2007-c]

Clifford was also an avid hunter, taking an annual three-week elk-hunting trip. He also enjoyed duck hunting. Many of his trophies adorned the family home. [interview-private-2007-b]
