Research Notes (Conflicts/Spelling/Followup)

CONFLICTS

Birth location: This database uses Nine Partners, Dutchess County, Province of New York. The History and Map of Danby, Vermont identifies Gilbert's birthplace as Nine Patners, N.Y., but this is clearly a misspelling of Nine Partners, a land grant in Dutchess County. [book-history-and-map-of-danby-vermont-1869]

Relationship (Father): This database uses William Palmer [3rd]. The History and Map of Danby, Vermont identifies his father as Abraham Palmer. Was Abraham the middle name of William? Or vice-versa? Note that Gilbert had a brother named Abraham. [book-history-and-map-of-danby-vermont-1869]

Marriage (Sarah Deuel): This database uses Sarah Deuel. The History and Map of Danby, Vermont spells her surname as Dewell. [book-history-and-map-of-danby-vermont-1869]

FOLLOWUP

His will was probated 14 Jun 1806, and mentioned his wife Mary and a total of 17 living children. [book-palmer-families-in-america-1966]

Gilbert and Sarah were noted as being married out-of-unity, presumably because Sarah was not a member of the Society of Friends. [book-quaker-records-nine-partners-mm, book-palmer-families-in-america-1966]

The meeting records for Nine Partners Monthly Meeting note that Gilbert Palmer and Sarah Deuel were the parents of Mary. However, the only known Mary in this database was born in Dec 1788, the daughter of Gilbert's second wife. Did Gilbert and Sarah have a child named Mary, who would almost certainly have to have been a twin of another child, and who may have died young? [book-quaker-records-nine-partners-mm]

He gave land for the Friends Cemetery in Danby, and was the first person to be buried there. [book-history-and-map-of-danby-vermont-1869, book-palmer-families-in-america-1966]

Need to find land records to try to resolve the issue of Gilbert being born in a location before his father moved to that location. Is William not (this) Gilbert's father? Was his father really Abraham Palmer, as claimed in The History and Map of Danby, Vermont and other places (see research notes for Gilbert's son Job). [book-history-and-map-of-danby-vermont-1869]
