However, the actual year of her birth is unclear in the last digit, giving 186x. Using her age from the same entry would make the full date Nov 1863, which is out of the range used in this database. Birth Date: This database uses between 2 Jun 1862 and 3 Jan 1863. Henry and Caroline's marriage certificate gives her age but it is unclear. One option is "25." Using that value and the documment date (31 Dec 1892) giving a birth date range from 1 Jan 1867 to 31 Dec 1867. FOLLOWUP

Caroline is referenced with two different surnames at the time she married Henry B. Johnson. Her marriage certificate with Henry and a marriage registry held at Kvernes Lutheran Church gives her last name as Johnson, while a newspaper article about Henry's death states that her name was Anderson. While one of these would be from a previous marriage, I have no usable evidence she was married more than once. Caroline's mother may have been Kjersti ____, born 28 Sep 1838 in Hitterdal, Norway. Kjersti married Nels Johnson, but became a widow sometime before 1883 with three children, Caroline, Carrie, and one other who died, probably as a teen. Kjersti died 29 Apr 1899. Carrie maried Eli Anderson, and died 14 Sep 1923 in Washington State. Her death certificate spells her mother's name as Kjarsti. [The similarity of her husband's name with that of her mother's future husband is an interesting coincidence but is reinforced in Kjersti's obituary.] [research-{private}-valer-interview-2009]

Caroline's father may have been Elias Anderson. Sometime before or around 1883 he became a widower with "a number" of children.
