FOLLOWUP
Narcissa was probably familiar with Springdale, Cedar County, Iowa, and may have lived there at some point. Her brother-in-law, Nathan Smith did. More importantly, in "John Brown: They Had a Concern" by Jeannette Mather Lord and published by West Virginia Archives and History (Volume 20, Number 3, April 1959, pp. 163-83), Narcissa is quoted regarding her knowledge of Captain John Brown, "Narcissa Macy Smith stated that Brown's character was irreproachable. He was an ardent prohibitionist; neither did he use tobacco, nor strong and profane language. 'As a man thinketh, so is he,' she quoted from Proverbs."
Narcissa's parents were both from North Carolina. [census-us-1880-ps-ia-shelby-207-2]
In 1880, 17-year old Lubella Macy (b. Indiana) was living with Daniel and Narcissa. She may have been Narcissa's 17-year old niece. [census-us-1880-ps-ia-shelby-207-2, (unrecorded reference)]
