CONFLICTS
Birth Date: This database uses 15 May 1900. The 1940 U.S. Census gives an age of (40), which, when applied to the official census date of 1 Apr 1940, gives a birth date range from 2 Apr 1899 to 1 Apr 1900. [census-us-1940-ps-sd-pennington-27b-7a]
FOLLOWUP
There appears to be another William C. Kappenman in eastern South Dakota. This is an interesting point if this William's father was also living in eastern South Dakota.
Was his mother Margaret Dopp or Dott (b.abt 1877)?
Did his siblings include Lulu or Luna Margaret (b. 16 Dec 1895; Turner County, SD), Sylvester (b. 9 Mar 1903, McCook County, SD), and Clarence (b. abt. 1898)?
Is he listed in the 1900 U.S. Census for District 323, Dolton Township, Turner County, SD? There are conflicts.
He may be listed in a 1954 city directory, which also notes his wife as Clara and that he is a fireman at RCAFB. (from Ancestry's U.S., City Directories, 1822-1995 database, image 103) He may also be listed in a 1960 city directory for Rapid City as Wm. C. Kappenman. However, Clara is not listed with him or as a separate entry under the Kappenman name. (from Ancestry's U.S., City Directories, 1822-1995 database, image 549)
William may have died Jun 1962, and been buried at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Rapid City, South Dakota.
The William Kappenman who died in 1962 was also born 15 May 1899 according to the Social Security Death Index. This would change the presumed birth date and conflict with his 1918 draft registration. [research-social-security-death-index]
