Research Notes (Conflicts/Spelling/Followup)

CONFLICTS

Birth date: This database uses between 2 Apr 1897 and 1 Apr 1898. The 1920 U.S. Census gives an age of (27), which, when applied to the offical census date of 1 Jan 1920, gives a birth date range from 2 Jan 1892 to 1 Jan 1893. (If I misread the record and her age was really 23, but the '3' was faded, this conflict goes away.) [census-us-1920-ps-mn-clay-42-20a]

FOLLOWUP

Clara may have been born 2 Jan 1898 in Kragnes, Minnesota, and died 23 Aug 1993 in Paradise, California. [research-conversation-with-{private}-2011]

Clara's parents may have been Julius Aggerholm (b. 1872, d. 18 Jun 1924) and Johanna Knutsen (1870, Norway - 14 Dec 1941, Anoka, Clay County, Minnesota). Their children (including Clara) may have been June, Sophia (b. Detroit Lakes, Minnesota), Clara, and Carl (b. 30 Aug 1895, Clay County, Minnesota; d. 21 May 1964). Sophia may have married Bert Williams and had children, Roland, Mickey, Roger, and Inez. [research-conversation-with-{private}-2011]

Her father was born in Minnesota, and her mother in Norway. [census-us-1930-ps-mn-clay-32-26b]

She was likely born in Felton, Clay County, Minnesota.

Julius Aggerholm may have been the son of Jens Jensen Aggerholm (d. 1886) and Signe ____ (d. Dec 1896). In addition to Julius, they may have had a daughter Marthilda (b. 1867, d. 1948). Family folklore suggests that "a" Jens Jensen married _____ Aggerholm and adopted the Aggerholm surname. This might have referred to either Jens, or his son-in-law, Jens J. Aggerholm (b. 1864, d. 1951). There is some suspicion that, rather than possibly adopting the Aggerholm surname, Marthilda's husband Jens, was the nephew of her father Jens, making Marthilda and her husband first cousins. Jens and Marthilda Aggerholm's children may have been Katherina (b. 4 Jun 1902, Clay County, MN; d. 6 Jun 1902), Theodore M. (b. 1885, Clay County, MN; d. 6 Jun 1902), Jen S. Johan (b. 10 Oct 1889, Clay County, MN; d. 16 Feb 1905), Clara (b. 1891, Clay County, MN; d. 1956), Agnes (b. 1892, Clay County, MN; d. 1971), John Martinius (b. 27 Dec 1896, Clay County, MN; d. 12 Jan 1902), and Martin J. (b. 28 May 1904, Clay County, MN; d. 15 Nov 1978). [research-conversation-with-{private}-2011]

Johanna may have been the daughter of Knute Kuntsen and Mary Larson. [research-conversation-with-{private}-2011]

The family fell upon difficult financial times and much of the farm was mortgaged to keep the family going. Johanna may have been afflicted with Alzeheimer's Disease, and been committed to the State Hospital for Mental Disease at Anoka, Minnesota. The source indicated it was sometime in the early 1900s, but that would mean the disease affected her very early, when she was only around 40. The source does note that Clara took charge of the family and regained at least part of her father's land through the courts. She alwo woked for multiple families as a housekeeper in her early teens, and after marrying Leopold, renting to boarders and working part-time in a grocery. [research-conversation-with-{private}-2011]

Leo and Clara probably married 6 Oct 1915 in Clay County, Minnesota. (Certificate 000K-398)
