FOLLOWUP
In a 26 Jun 1939 edition of The Clarion Democrat (Clarion, Pennsylvania), on page 8, col 5, is a list of recently issued marriage licenses. Theodore Walter Brown of Putneyville and Bertha Alberta [correct spelling? misprint?] Saltsgiver of Kittanning are in this list. However, this a problem, given their children born before this date. One possible explanation is that Theodore and/or Bertha was married to other people before 1939, and any children from Bertha's previous marriage were adopted by Theodore. Considering their ages in 1939 (mid- to late-30s) it is probable that they were married to each other or to other partners before then.
In a 31 Mar 1958 edition of Simpson's Daily Leader-Times (Kittanning, Pennsylvania) on page 11, col. 6, is a notice of a divorce granted to Theodore W. Brown and Bertha Alverda [misprint?] Brown. Theodore charged Bertha with indignities, per the notice.
