Death Date: The source gives a date of 11 Nov 1992. This database uses a date of 10 Nov 1992. I have seen other references (not used as sources) use the 11 Nov date, and it may be that the obituary date was a typo. [misc-earle-meadows-entry-in-britannica]

FOLLOWUP

Earle may have been a "Jr." meaning his son was a "III". His father, Earl Meadows Sr. died in Asheville, NC 1 Feb 1972.

Earle was awarded a scholarship to USC. Since he was a track star (pole vault) at USC, the scholarship was presumably for sports. [obituary-earl-meadows-1992]

Earle had at least two brothers (Raw and Clyde) and two sisters (Elaine Scarborough and "Mrs. R.E. Nolan") [periodical-earle-meadows-now-captain-1945]

The affadavit for a marriage license for Elmer and Marguerite (for their second wedding) was signed in November 1937. This is months after their June 1937 marriage (elopment), and even farther removed from their July 1938 marriage. Was this a normal situation?

Two of Elmer Earle Meadow's children in this database are mentioned in Elmer's obituary as his children, but not in his wife Marguerite's obituary. Could they be the children of another mother whom Elmer married after his divorce from Marguerite?
