FOLLOWUP
Since 40 years is generally a late age for a first marriage, was Mary married before she married David H. Spear? Note that this is also late for a woman to give birth for the first time
The Louisiana death record for Mary Speer[Spear] notes her father is Aaron Vorhies Shafer and her mother is Samantha Longshore, and that she married Dave Speer[Spear]. See FamilySearch record (accessible at a FamilySearch Center only): DFN 004213495, MFN 1183481, image 939)
Mary is a first cousin, once removed, to Mary Ann Shafer, who married David's brother, Thomas James (T.J.) Spear.
Mary's middle name may have been Romine. [research-a-spear-family-history]
Or maybe Romaine? (Find A Grave memorial 118230075, unsourced text; the marker itself is not used as a source since it adds no reliable evidence not already in her obituary, and may have been informed by the same person, and doesn't add the middle name)
Mary's location in 1900 is defined as Lake Arthur, LA in husband David Spear's obituary. [This needs to be resolved, since other records suggest otherwise. And she did move back after David's death, probably to be with other family who had moved to Louisiana in 1888.] [obituary-david-spear-1917]
Mary is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Charles Bradbury and Mrs. E.L. Pratt, both of Lake Arthur, Louisiana. [obituary-mary-spear-1942]
