FOLLOWUP

In 1880, Eliza was living with her father, Andrew, and identified as a widow. [census-us-1880-ps-oh-washington-227-x198b]

A gravestone is shared between her father, Andrew Spear and Eliza Howell. Presumably, Eliza had married someone with the surname Howell. [marker-andrew-spear-eliza-howell-1887-1916]

The Find a Grave memorial for Eliza (#167321692) links to David William Howell (#3136105) as her spouse. Using that link shows a memorial for PVT David William Hower (although the marker clearly shows the name Howell), b. 1825, d. 15 Nov 1863 in Little Rock. However, only the nane David Howell and his affiliation (Co. A 77 Ohio Inf.) appear on the marker, so the dates are unsupported by any sources referenced on the memorials.

The "U.S., Registers of Deaths of Volunteers, 1861-1865" database on Ancestry has an entry for David in A Company of the 77th Ohio Infantry, showing he died in the regimental hospital of chronic diarrhea, which was the cause of death for twice as many individuals on the same page as "killed in action."

The "U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900" database, also on Ancestry (no source image) notes that David William Howell (1819-1863) was married (1846) in Ohio to Emily Cain (1824-). However, the 1850 U.S. Census shows that Andrew and Elizabeth were still married. [unsaved, census-us-1850-ps-oh-monroe-salem-507a]
