FOLLOWUP
Amanda's father was born in Germany, her mother in Virginia. [census-us-1880-ps-ia-guthrie-76-44, census-us-1900-ps-ia-guthrie-54-13]
Amanda's brother Christian Small (62, b. Nov 1837 in Ohio) was living with her and her children in 1900, acting as a farm laborer. [census-us-1900-ps-ia-guthrie-54-13]
Amanda's full name might be Sarah Amanda Small. She may have died on 5 Jun 1940 and been buried in West Cemetery, Panora, Iowa. However, her gravestone gives a birth year of 1847, which is a five-year discrepency from the Amanda stored in my database. The month of birth as given in her Find A Grave memorial (11193818) is also at odds with the information in this database, but this full date isn't on the gravestone. The memorial also mentions child Maude D. (Carlile) Hartzell (1877-1970) and siblings Christian Alexander Small (1837-1932), James S Small (1839-1922) and Susan Jane (Small) Quiggin, but does not mention her other children. It notes her father is Phillip Frederick Small (1810-1886).
