During his time in the U.S. Air Force, Robert traveled across the United States, as well as to Spain. His duty stations included Alaska, South Dakota, Mississippi, Spain, Maine, and Arizona, and he was deployed to Vietnam. [obituary-theresa-wood-2021, obituary-robert-wood-2007]

Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating, dancing, and play cards. Later in his life, playing cards, trips to Deadwood, South Dakota, and visiting family and friends occupied his time. [obituary-robert-wood-2007]

Roberts parents are Jeptha Wood and Velma Grubbs. He has two brothers: {private} Wood of Steward Mississsippi and Sonny Wood. He has three sisters: {private} Box of Winona, Mississippi, {private} McDonald of White Haven, Mississippi, and {private} Tolbert of Memphis Tennessee.
