FOLLOWUP

Walter Dole and Agnes Hanneman may have had a child, {private}. [research-a-spear-family-history]

The California, U.S., Death Index, 1940-1997 database on Ancestry holds an index for a death record for Walter Spear Dole, born 13 Sep 1894 in Kansas [not Iowa; either the wrong individual, or a record is incorrect] and died 7 Jun 1982 in San Bernardino [city or county?], California. His mother's maiden name was Spear.

The Social Security Death Index has a record for a Walter Dole, born 12 Sep 1894, and who died in Jun 1982, in Corona, Riverside County, California. [research-social-security-death-index]

Or Walter may have died 7 Jun 1982 in Fontana, California, and was buried at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California. [research-a-spear-family-history]

There does exist a grave in Rose Hills Memorial Park for a Walter Spear Dole (b. 13 Sep 1894, d. 7 Jun 1982). His lot is on the Poplar Lawn, gate 11, section 5, lot 3713, grave 1, according to a search on the Rose Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary web site.

Despite these potential references to ending up in California, none offer a reason why he would have moved there. He sat on the board of a thriving floral business in Beatrice, Nebraska, that was owned by his uncle until 1922, when his uncle sold his shares to Walter and three other people. Maybe the move was prompted by the depression? Probably not since he was still in Beatrice in 1942. Are the California references actually to one of at least two other individuals named Walter Dole (one with a middle initial of S.) that I've found in my research?
