Emmet may have died of consumption (tuberculosis). His death on 28 Dec 1890 is noted in The Republican Citizen (Atwood, Kansas) on 2 Jan 1891, p.3, col.4. It also noted he had lived in the area for "four years and more" and that he would be sorely missed.
