FOLLOWUP
The passenger list of the SS Bremem, arriving in the Port of New York in Apr 1872, includes the Joseph and Anna Bauer family. The list includes the (probable) children Therese[Theresia], Anton, Josef, Alois, and Johann. These are the known children who were born in Bayern (and adds two that were not recorded in the 1880 US Census, covering the long gap between Theresia and Alois). However, although most ages are only a year off (a common issue), the differences in the ages of Joseph (about 2 years) and Theresia (about 4 years) are concerning. The family may have lived in Buffalo, NY after immigrating to the United States, moving to Plain, Frankliin Town, Sauk County WI, USA in 1874.
See the father (Joseph Bauer) for information relating to the 1885 Wisconsin state census.
In 1895, the Wisconsin state census records a Joseph Bauer Jr., living alone, and who is probably Josef. (Wisconsin, U.S., State Census, 1855-1905, Ancestry database, path "1895 〉 Sauk 〉 Franklin", image 2, right page, #3,4)
Joseph may have married Gusta Schwartz on 17 May 1899 in Sauk County, WI, USA.
In 1905, Joseph Bauer Jr. can be found next door (presumably) to his parents, and now married to Augusta, with children Anna, Clara, and Rosa. (Wisconsin, U.S., State Census, 1855-1905, Ancestry database, path "1905 〉 Sauk 〉 Franklin", image 11, right page, lines 31-37)
