Research Notes (Conflicts/Spelling/Followup)
CONFLICTS
Birth Date: This database uses Apr 1869. Her gravestone gives the year 1870. [marker-johanna-aggerholm-1941]
SPELLING
Given Name: This database uses Johanna. The 1900 US Census spells it Johama. [census-us-1900-ps-mn-clay-306-5a]
FOLLOWUP
Johanna may have been the daughter of Knute Kuntsen and Mary Larson, and she may have died 14 Dec 1941 in Anoka, Clay County, Minnesota. [research-conversation-with-private-2011]
The 1900 US Census shows two "servants" (farm laborers) living with the Julius and Joahnna Aggerholm family, Lars Gletna and Ole T[h]ompson. Lars was born Apr 1867 in Norway, and arrived in the US in 1891. Ole was born Apr 1873 in Norway, and arrived in the US in 1892. Both had first papers in their naturalization process. Were they related to Julius or Johanna? In particular, Gletna is just a typo of Gletne, which may be Johanna's surname. [census-us-1900-ps-mn-clay-306-5a]
Her husband Julius' death certificate uses "Gletne" for her surname, and the unsourced text on her Find A Grave entry uses a birth surname of Gletne. [death-julius-agerholm-1924, Find A Grave memorial #79113415]
I have found a few references that use both, as in Knute Knutsen Gletne. Gletne was likely the name of the farm on which the family lived before emigrating to the U.S, since it isn't the surname of her possible mother, noted above. (Just in case, I looked for a place name called Gletne, but didn't find any.) Could Gletne have been located near the city of Kristiansand? I found one reference (amateur, on Ancestry) that treats Gletne as a locatlity within that city. (It may have originally been a farm outside the city proper.)
The unsourced text on her Find A Grave memorial (#79113415) notes she may have been born 16 Apr 1870 in Kristiansand kommune, Vest-Agdyer fylk, Norway and died 14 Dec 1941 in Anoka, Anoka County, MN, USA.
In addition to the children in this database, Julius and Joanna may have had a daughter, June. [research-conversation-with-private-2011]
Johanna may have been afflicted with Alzeheimer's Disease, and been committed to the State Hospital for Mental Disease at Anoka, Minnesota. The source indicated it was sometime in the early 1900s, meaning the disease affected her very early, when she was only around 40. [research-conversation-with-private-2011]
The unsourced text on Find A Grave memorials #172494645 and #172494613 note that Julius and Johanna Aggerholm also had an unnamed stillborn boy (31 Aug 1901) and an unnamed premature girl (27 May 1902 - 30 May 1902), though this is a very quick attempt for another child, even being premature. Per the text, the Wright Funeral Home records and obituaries have them buried in Concordia Cemetery, but the text also notes the Concordia records have no such interments, and a marker (used in this database) can be found in North Buffalo Cemetery. A grave map published on Find A Grave for North Buffalo Cemetery (added by the North Buffalo Cemetery Association on 22 May 2023, unknown author) does note these children as having unknown gravesites. Also having an unknown gravesite in that cemetery is stillborn Jens Aggerholm (6 Sep 1910, memorial #172494658). There is also a MN Birth Index entry for _____ Aggerholm, b. 27 May 1902 in Clay County, MN (Web: Minnesota, U.S., Birth Index, 1900-1934, Ancestry database, search for surname Aggerholm)
