FOLLOWUP

Jens' parents were both born in Denmark. [census-us-1880-ps-mn-clay-186-2]

A Danish baptism record may identify Jens Aggerholm's parents as Jens Madsen Aggerholm and Dorle Marie Paulsdatter, and notes he was baptised on 6 Mar 1821. (Denmark, Church Records, 1812-1924, Ancestry database, path "Hjørring Amt Og Thisted Amt ⟩ Kettrup Sogn ⟩ 1814-1843", image 13)

An 1850 Danish census record may show 29 year old Jens Aggerholm (born 1821 in Kettrup) living as a single man in Kettrup, Vester Han, Thisted, Danmark. (1850 Denmark Census, Ancestry database, path "Svendborg: Vindinge, Hellerup-Vejle: Brusk, Nørre Bramdrup", image 1140)

He may have emigrated as a 33 year old on 15 May 1855 from Hamburg, Deutschland on the ship Copernicus. At the time was living in Faabrg, Dänmark. (Hamburg Passenger Lists, 1850-1934, Ancestry database, path "1850-1859 ⟩ Direkt Band 008 (6 Jan 1855 - 24 Nov 1855)", image 102)

Although the name is unclear ([Jents or Jenls] Aggerholm), he may have arrived in the Port of New York on 23 Jun 1855, with a planned destination of Wisconsin on the same ship Copernicus noted above. (New York, U.S., Arriving Passenger and Crew Lists (including Castle Garden and Ellis Island), 1820-1957, Ancestry database, path "Date ⟩ 1855 ⟩ June ⟩ 23 ⟩ Copernicus", image 1)

A transcribed cemetery record for Signe and Jens notes his birth (6 Mar 1821), death (9 Mar 1885) and apparent birth location of Oster Bye Jijlland, Denmark. However, no such location exists. [Jijlland is probably Jylland, the continental portion of Denmark, and translates to Jutland in English. And Oster Bye might actually be Øster Vrå, currently known as Østervrå, a town in the Vendsyssel region of northern Jylland This conflicts with the Find A Grave marker for Jens, which gives Kettrup, Jammerbugt Kommune, Nordjylland [North Jutland; this is okay], Denmark as his birth location. It also conflicts with the 1850 Denmark Census noted above. (North Dakota, U.S., Cemetery Records, 1877-1999, Ancestry database, image 459, left side, Aggerholm)

In addition to Matilda and Julius, Jens' Find A Grave memorial has an unsourced link to a child, Marius Theodore Aggerholm (17 Mar 1865 - 10 Jul 1866) who died as an infant. Unfortunately, the gravestone image is unreadable. (Marius' Find A Grave memorial #114181305)

Jens may have died in 1896. [research-conversation-with-{private}-2011]
