FOLLOWUP

Family folklore suggests that he adopted the Aggerholm surname, rather than Matilda changing to use his. However, there is some suspicion that, rather than adopting the Aggerholm surname, Jens was the nephew of Mathilda's father Jens and already had that surname, and making Jens and his wife first cousins. [research-conversation-with-{private}-2011]

Related to the kinship suspicion, unverified and sometimes unsourced amateur genealogies on Ancestry suggest Jen's parents are Johan Peter Aggerholm (1827-1882) and Maren Katrine Jensen [doesn't follow patronymic naming] (1818-).

The next generation, Johan Peter Aggerholm's parents are Jens Madsen Aggerholm (1782-1853) and Dorthe Marie Poulsdatter (1774-1844). They are also suggested as the parents of Mads Christian Jensen Aggerholm (1815-1891), Jens Jensen Aggerholm (1821-1885), Povl Christian Jensen Aggerholm (1818-), and Dødfødt Aggerholm (1829-).

If true, this would make Johan Peter Aggerholm (probable father of Jens Aggerholm) and Jens Jenson Aggerholm (father of Matilda Aggerholm), brothers, and their children, first cousins.

An 1870 Danish census may show Johan Peter Aggerholm (42) and Maren Katrine Jensdatter (51) as the parents of Niels Christian Aggerholm (9) and Jens Aggerholm (5), and living in Gøttrup, Vester Han, Vester han, Thisted, Danmark.

His unsourced Find A Grave memorial (#79113904) text notes that he was born 10 May 1864 and died 5 Apr 1951 in Clay County, MN, USA, and that he was a resident of Moorhead, MN when he died. The transcribed obituary on Find A Grave notes that Mr. [Jens] Aggerholm married Matilda Aggerholm at Garfield, Minn., in 1885. There are also unsourced links to 12 children, most of whom are in this database. (Two of them died before being recorded in any source I've found to date.)
