Research Notes (Conflicts/Spelling/Followup)

CONFLICTS

Birth Date: This database uses between 2 Jun 1863 and 15 Apr 1864. The 1900 U.S. Census gives an explicit birth date (Dec 1864) and an age (33). When applied to the official census date of 1 Jun 1900, the age gives a birth date range of 2 Jun 1866 to 1 Jun 1867, so the record is internally inconsistent. [census-us-1900-ps-sd-jerauld-200-5a]

FOLLOWUP

The 1910 U.S. Census record for Kate's son Ralph (in E.D. 252), records Kate's birthplace as Iowa, while the one for Kate herself (in E.D. 249) records it as Pennsylvania, as do other records. This appears to be an error in her son's record. Note that there is another Kate Winegar who shows up in records as being from Iowa, but she is 10 years older.
