General Notes and Anecdotes
Cora was homecoming queen at Murdo High School (Murdo, Jones County, South Dakota) in 1939, the year she graduated. [obituary-cora-mcquisten-2008]
When she graduated, her cousin Gertrude (Florence G. Stilwell) sent Cora the "greatest" dress for graduation. After graduation, Great Aunt Emilie sent her Emilie's old watch to wear until Cora could afford a new one. Cora wore the watch for years. She also sent a check ro $300 to start Cora off at Rapid City Business College. Cora recalled that all she really wanted to do was to get enough education to get a job with some "pay." She was a president of The Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC), now known as South Dakota Achieve (Sioux Vocational). [obituary-cora-mcquisten-2008]
