General Notes and Anecdotes
In 1830, bothers William, Robert, James, Samuel, David, Andrew, and Joseph Spear were all living in separate households in Kirkwood Township, Ohio. The record also suggests that Robert and William were next-door neighbors, as were James, David, and Andrew. [census-us-1830-ps-oh-belmont-kirkwood]

Research Notes (Conflicts/Spelling/Followup)
FOLLOWUP
William may have been born 2 May 1791 in Virginia. He may have died 27 Oct 1873 in Fairview, Gurnsey County, Ohio, and was buried in Methodist Church Cemetery, in Oxford Township, Guernsey County, Ohio. [research-a-spear-family-history]
There is a record of (a) William Spear marrying Jane McKinney in Guernsey County, Ohio, on 21 Feb 1841. (from Ancestry "Ohio, U.S., County Marriage Records, 1774-1993")
There is a William Spear, born in Pennsylvania rather than Virginia. The evidence I have found so far, suggests the Pennsylvania clan is a different lineage.
The 1830 U.S. Census identifies the household as containing William but no female over 10, which tracks (Catherine had died, and he didn't marry Margaret until December). There are also one boy between 5 and 10, and one between 10 and 15 (unknown), and two girls under 5 and one between 5 and 10 (unknown). [census-us-1830-ps-oh-belmont-kirkwood]
A gravestone image exist on Find A Grave (memorial ID 95148758) for William Spear, but the image is insufficient to see the given name, unambiguously. (There is no entry at all on BillionGraves.) It shows a birth date of May 2, 1791 and a death date of Oct. 27, 1872, matching the note above. The stone is located in Fairview Methodist Cemetery, Fairview, Guernsey County, OH. The unsourced memorial text also includes a birth location of Somerset County, PA, and a death location of Belmont County, OH.
