General Notes and Anecdotes
George had the same first name and initial as his older brother who had died as an infant in 1835. [book-maris-family-in-the-us-1885]
In 1876 George started a term in the state legislature for Iowa. At least part of his platform was the "temperance" issue. [The source didn't indicate his stance on the issue, but because of his Quaker heritage, he was almost certainly with the movement.] [book-maris-family-in-the-us-1885]
In 1880, the household included a live-in hired hand (presumably for the farm) named Oscar Wilson. Also living with his family was the family of his father-in-law Gilbert Smith, which included Clarissa, Gilbert's second wife, and a live-in servant, 27-year old Elsie Boss. [census-us-1880-ps-ia-cedar-354-6]
George was one of the first trustees of the Wichita Methodist Church, dedicated in June 1898. He, along with their children Emmor, Eva, Emily, Lillie, Walter, and Florence, were early members of the church. [periodical-wichita-church-bicentennial-1976]

CONFLICTS
Birth Date: This database uses 17 June 1841. The 1850 U.S. Census gives an age of (7), which, when applied to the official census date of 1 Jun 1850, gives a birth date range from 2 June 1842 to 1 June 1843. [census-us-1850-ps-oh-morgan-marion-157b]
Birth Date: This database uses 17 June 1841. The 1880 U.S. Census gives an age of (39), which, when applied to the official census date of 1 Jun 1870, gives a birth date range from 2 June 1840 to 1 June 1841. [census-us-1880-ps-ia-cedar-354-6]
Birth Location. This database uses Morgan County, Ohio. His death certificate gives a location of "Chesterfield - Ohio." There is a Chesterfield township in Fulton County, across the state from Morgan County, which is assumed to be incorrect. However, there is a Chesterhill village in Morgan County. (There is also a Deerfield township.) [death-george-maris-1915]
Marriage Date: This database uses 2 June 1865. The 1900 U.S. Census gives the number of years (35) of marriage, which, when applied to the official census date of 1 Jun 1900, gives a marriage date range from 2 June 1864 to 1 June 1865. [census-us-1900-ps-ia-guthrie-63-1a]
Residence Date (Guthrie County): This database uses 1872. His obituary gives the year as 1874. [obituary-george-maris-1915]
Election Date (Iowa State Legislature): This database uses 1875. His obituary gives a date of "about 38 years ago" which suggests a date of 1877. This is known to be wrong. [obituary-george-maris-1915]
Death Location: This database uses Elgin, Grand County, Utah. George's obituary gives the location as Green River. Since Green River (the town) and Elgin were on either side of the Green River (the river), this may be due to a possible lack of any real distinction in place name. (Elgin was eventually absorbed into Green River.) [obituary-george-maris-1915]
FOLLOWUP
George and his sibling Rebecca appear to have married siblings Mary and Nathan Smith.
Why did he move to Keokuk, Iowa about 1858-9? This absence from Morgan County is supported by his absence in the 1860 US Census for Owen and Anna Maris.
After his move to Iowa, George likely spent time farming and maybe dairying.
George was born into a Quaker family, but converted to the M.E. (almost certainly Methodist Episcopal) church around 1882/3, according to a transcribed copy of an unnamed newspaper obituary for his daughter, Eva.
George Jenkins may have been a Friend in the Orthodox Quaker tradition, while Mary was of the "Hicksite" (rural or evangelical) Quakers. This forced the couple to be disowned(?) for marrying out of unity.
He started a term as Guthrie County Treasurer in 1884, winning the September 1883 election by a narrow margin of 34 votes (1750 to 1716) over J.D. Lenon. (The sheriff's race was even closer, 1736 to 1719.)
Check if Seeley Township existed during his tenure in this location, orginally "Section 17".
He may have moved to Green River Valley (Elgin, UT) in 1907 where he was a director of the Fruit Growers State Bank, and vice president of the Elgin Power and Water Company.
The 1910 U.S. Census for District 50, Elgin, Grand County, Utah shows George and Mary's daughter Florence living there, which conflicts with the same census for Grand Junction, Mesa County, Coorado. Check this before adding the former.
He was a member of Ancient Order of United Workingmen.
George's death certificate notes his "place of burial or removal" as Guthrie Center, Iowa. This was the closest town to the cemetery, which is located roughly nine miles away.
