General Notes and Anecdotes

Emily, along with her parents and siblings, were early members of the Wichita Methodist Church, dedicated in June 1898. [periodical-wichita-church-bicentennial-1976]

Emily lived in a large home in Duluth, Minnesota with her husband. After he passed away, Emily toured around the world, but because of her significant arthritis, ultimately settled in Albuquerque, New Mexico. [interview-cora-mcquisten-2007]

She, along with sister Florence, would send trunks of used clothing (only a year or so old) as material that was used for creating new clothing for her nieces and nephews. [interview-cora-mcquisten-2007]

She was quite generous to family and puchased silver sets on her journeys for her nephews and nieces, and their spouses. She also gave her nieces and nephew "real amber" necklaces one year. On another occasion she sent "delicate silver bracelets" to all the children of niece Mary, and nephews Kenneth, and George. [interview-cora-mcquisten-2007]

Emily had only one child, Laura. This may be why the nephews and nieces were the recipients of so much of Emily's largesse. [interview-cora-mcquisten-2007]
