General Notes and Anecdotes

Florence, along with her parents and siblings, were early members of the Wichita Methodist Church, dedicated in June 1898. [periodical-wichita-church-bicentennial-1976]

After she left school, she worked a nurse for a private family, but was still living with Fred and Lilly. [census-us-1910-ps-co-mesa-92-7a]

She, along with sister Emilie, would send trunks of used clothing (only a year or so old) as material that was used for creating new clothing for her nieces and nephews. [interview-cora-mcquisten-2007]

Research Notes (Conflicts/Spelling/Followup)

FOLLOWUP

In 1900, Florence was staying with Fred and Lydia Stilwell (her sister and brother-in-law) and attending school. [census-us-1900-ps-ia-allamakee-15-8a]

The 1905 Iowa State Census places a Florence L. Maris in Gutherie County, with a Wichita P.O. address.

The 1910 U.S. Census for District 50, Elgin, Grand County, Utah shows Florence living there, which conflicts with the same census for Grand Junction, Mesa County, Coorado. Check this before adding the former.

A summarized biography on FamilySearch (with reference to the 1885 Iowa Census, 1910 US Census, and some birth and marriage records without source images) suggests she was (1) born in West Branch, Cedar County, Iowa; (2) married Frederick William Schalk on 30 November 1924 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois; (3) lived in Guthrie Center, Guthrie County, Iowa; and (4) died on 4 April 1967 in Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia, United States.
