Research Notes (Conflicts/Spelling/Followup)
CONFLICTS
Given Name: This database uses Hannah. The 1860 U.S. Census uses the name Helen. [census-us-1870-ps-oh-monroe-salem-40]
Birth Date: This database uses 18 Feb 1793. Using her age (68) on the official 1860 census date of 1 June 1860 gives a birth date range from 2 June 1791 to 1 June 1792. [census-us-1860-ps-ny-erie-collins-29]
FOLLOWUP
Hannah may have been the daughter of James Nichols and Eunice Cook. [research-joshua-palmerton-genealogical-study]
James may have been born 3 Aug 1768, Rhode Island, and died 15 Apr 1842 in Danby, Rutland County, Vermont. Eunice Cook may have been born 27 Mar 1773 in Smithfield, Rhode Island and died 31 Oct 1823, Danby, Rutland County, Vermont. [research-joshua-palmerton-genealogical-study]
An alternate marriage date for Joshua and Hannah may have been 12 Jan 1826. This is late and is a problem with respect to the birth dates for several children, and I expect is a typo or other error in the source. [research-joshua-palmerton-genealogical-study]
In the 1850 U.S. Census, a child of two years is shown in the household. The birth date is rather late for Hannah Palmerton to be having children (she was about 55), and it appears to be some 12 years after Mary and 23 years after Joseph. Could Charles be a grandchild? [census-us-1850-ps-ny-erie-collins-299a]
Hannah seems to be called Helen in the 1870 census. Was Helen a nickname she commonly used, or was it a misunderstanding by the enumerator? [census-us-1870-ps-oh-monroe-salem-40]
Was Hannah buried in the Route 39 Quaker Cemetery, located about 1/4 mile east of Kerr-Warner Road, in Collins? The date on her headstone may be 18 Dec 1870.
