SPELLING

Given Name: This database uses Marie Elizabeth. The 1930 U.S. Census gives her first name as Maria. [census-us-1930-ps-sd-haakon-9-2a]

Surname: This database uses Brech. The marriage certificate for Victor and Marie uses the newer "Americanized" Breck. [marriage-hays-breck-1929]

FOLLOWUP

Regarding Marie's birthplace, Jackson County did not exist in 1910. It was dissolved 3 June 1909 (S. Dak. Laws 1909, 11th sess., ch. 280/pp. 427-429) and re-created with different boundaries on 3 November 1914 (S. Dak. Comp. Laws 1929, 1:147; S. Dak. Code 1939, 1:324-325)

Since the current Jackson County was created from Stanley County in 1914, and Stanley County existed during those interim years with no other relevant changes I could find, it is likely that Cottonwood was actually in Stanley County for those ~5 years, regardless of the location defined in the census record and Victor Hays and Marie Brech's marriage record.
