Research Notes (Conflicts/Spelling/Followup)
Birth Date: This database uses 15 April 1883. The 1905 Minnesota Census gives an age of (23), which, when applied to the offical census date of 1 Jun 1905, gives a birth date range from 2 Jun 1881 to 1 Jun 1882. [census-us-mn-1905-ottertail-altona-5]
Emma's daughter Ada, may have lived with the Lemke family after Emma's death in 1913.
In 1905, Edward and Emma were living close to 26 year old Emelia Lemke and her children in Altona (see below). [census-us-mn-1905-ottertail-altona-5]
According to Wikipedia, Altona was founded in 1903, but the name was soon changed to Vergas. However, I have no source for this other when Wikipedia, and the link it provided to the Minnesota Historical Society is now (as of 2021) dead. A quick search of the MHS site did not result in any usable finds, a deeper one may. Note that the name change was evidently sometime before 15 Apr 1910, since Vergas is used in the 1910 U.S. Census. Also, Altona is currently being used as a town name in another county.
