General Notes and Anecdotes
John received a doner heart on 11 Sep 1995 during a 16 hour surgery. (For more on the doner, refer to the article.) His dramatic recovery provided a wake-up call and he quit smoking and drinking. In 2001 he started a mentoring program for preteen boys at Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church in Bremerton, Washington. [periodical-heart-to-heart-2006]
He was a storyteller. He was always willing to help others in need, whether that was helping financially, giving advice, or just listening, and was very active in his church. And, he always dressed sharply; even his casual dress was "on point." [obituary-john-cunningham-2023]

FOLLOWUP
John has three children, {private} of Tennesee, {private} of California, and {private} of California. All three were adults in 2006, and {private} is already in this database as a son of John and Ellen Davis. I suspect that {private} were children of of either John and {private} or a prior husband. John served in the Navy, but I don't have details yet.
There exist several 1940 amd 1950 U.S. Census records for a John Cunningham born about 1937 in Georgia, but I have insufficient information to choose.
