Research Notes (Conflicts/Spelling/Followup)
FOLLOWUP
Ada is not mentioned in Edward's household in either 1920 or 1930. However, there are two likely alternate mentions:
--- In the 1920 U.S. Census, Ada M. (8, b. in Minnesota) living with her uncle William, along with Augusta Lemke his mother, and Anna his sister. Although not clear, it appears that Anna and Ada don't use the Lemke surname. (Most such lines use a dash to indicate a common surname. In this case, William and Augusta are identified by the explicit surname Lemke, while Anna and Ada have no marks suggesting they share the Lemke surname. In this case Ada's 'M' is likely for her surname, Marks. (1920 United States Federal Census, Ancestry database, path "Minnesota 〉 Becker 〉 Frazee 〉 District 0012", image 6)
--- In the 1930 U.S. Census, Ada Marks (18, b. in Minnesota) is still living with her uncle William, along with his mother Gustina[Augusta]. It is curious to note that, according to the census pages, William only aged 1 year from 1920 to 1930, while Augusta aged 12 years, and Ada aged exactly 10. (1930 United States Federal Census, Ancestry database, path "Minnesota 〉 Becker 〉 Frazee 〉 District 0016", image 13)
Both of these could be the result of Ada's mother's death in 1913, when Ada was younger than 2 years. Her other siblings at the time were 5 and older, and boys, so sending his only daughter (at the time) to live with her uncle and aunt may have been a good idea to Edward. It does not explain why Ada didn't return after Edward married Hattie.
Ada's grave marker notes she is the beloved sister of Edward Sr. However, there is some confusion over Sr. vs Jr. --- see the research notes for Edward Leopold Marks Jr. [marker-ada-marks-1974]
Ada may have died in Norman County, Minnesota. (From the Minnesota Death Certificate index, Minnesota Historical Society. Certificate #1974-MN-020664.)
